Minimum health management standards
We have had minimum health management standards in place, Shell-wide, since 2003. These global standards are an important tool to help us get consistent health management performance in Shell.
Our minimum health management standards set down the baseline for how all companies where Shell has operational control manage the health of employees, contractors and their families.
They define standards for:
Bukom Refinery. HSSE initiative to drink more and eat regularly.
- assessing the health risks to staff and contractors of all our activities;
- monitoring illness across our workforce;
- conducting health impact assessments for all new projects;
- factoring health considerations into the design of new projects;
- providing information on any health risks related to our products;
- minimum fitness levels for staff and contractors to be allowed to work;
- providing our employees with access to medical services; and
- ensuring plans are in place for medical emergencies;
Our approach to health management includes the steps we are taking to support Shell employees and contractors who have HIV and AIDS, and our work with others in the community to slow the spread of HIV. Read more about our HIV/AIDS programme.
