Climate change commitment
We were one of the first energy companies to acknowledge the threat of climate change. We are calling for action by governments, our industry and energy users. But we are also taking action ourselves – by playing a leading role in demonstrating ways to manage CO2 responsibly.
Shell measures, reports and manages the emission of greenhouse gases from our worldwide facilities under our operational control.
In 1998 we set the long-term target that by 2010 our greenhouse gas emissions from these facilities will be 5% or more below 1990 levels, even while we grow our business.
See our climate change section for a summary of our wide-ranging efforts to manage emissions from our operations, help customers reduce their emissions, and encourage governments to act.
