Asset integrity and process safety standards

We are committed to preventing incidents that put our people, neighbours, the environment and our facilities at risk. Asset integrity and process safety means making sure our facilities are well designed, safely operated and properly maintained.

We formalised and strengthened our existing requirements in 2007, creating mandatory Shell-wide asset integrity and process safety standards.

The elements covered by the standards include:

  • defining who is responsible for implementing the standards;
  • the design, construction and operating standards that all facilities must follow to be safe;
  • the procedures for identifying and managing process safety risks at all facilities;
  • how to check safety risks using independent tests; and
  • the need to report every year on whether the standards are being met.
