We are here to tap into local knowledge and expertise, and also to align through the science park our technology programme to Shell's and Qatar’s needs. The work at the Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre is focused on the development and implementation of technologies that support Qatar’s energy industry, particularly Qatar’s aspirations to be the globe’s largest liquefied natural gas exporter and the gas to liquids capital of the world. The Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre has a team of over 35 from Qatar and around the world, including around 20 top engineers and scientists. Shell was the first tenant to move into the Qatar Science & Technology Park’s brand new facility. The Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre was opened in April 2008. Shell had been conducting research in temporary facilities since 2005. Facility
Our facility includes a learning centre that is busy throughout the year and is one of Shell’s premier learning hubs in the region. We provide interactive technical and managerial courses to Shell employees from Qatar and elsewhere. The learning centre also conducts external lectures and seminars in local universities as part of the commitment to transfer technology and knowledge to Qatar. More than 800 participants were trained in 2008.
We opened a state-of-the-art laboratory in February 2009. The laboratory provides training and support to the current programmes in the centre. Programmes Our programmes include improving the understanding of local carbonate geology, testing and developing gas to liquid catalysts, and developing sulphur-based products among many other exciting new concepts and ideas. |
