This is the third consecutive year, Qatar Shell pursued close cooperation with this prominent Islamic centre to cater for the needs of thousands of Muslim workers on the Pearl project during the Holy month of Ramadan. Pearl GTL, a project jointly developed by QP and Shell, employs 48,000 workers from more than 60 nationalities. The Muslim population in the project represent 25% of the total workforce. Qatar Guests Centre also provides Imams (religious scholars) to lead prayers and other religious rituals associated with the fasting month of Ramadan. Shell also ensures that all mosques in the different camps within the workers’ residence (The Pearl Village) are fully equipped and prepared for the ongoing religious activities of the Holy month. “We are very grateful for the support of the Qatar Guests Centre. We fully understand the spiritual atmosphere of this month and its significance to Muslims in the project and we are committed to do everything possible to ensure that Muslims on site enjoy the experience to the full,” said Andy Brown, MD of Pearl Project and Executive Vice President for Qatar Shell. Shell has championed welfare in the Pearl GTL project to ensure that it creates a multi-culture environment where different religions, nationalities and ethnicities are valued and respected.
