Shell Calls Ministry Of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs To Lead Eid Prayer For 10,000 Muslim Workers On Pearl Gtl Project

Around ten thousand Muslim workers in the Pearl Gas to Liquids project in Ras Laffan Industrial City performed Eid Al Fitr prayers in the workers residence known as the Pearl village.

 

The prayer was carried out in Al Muntazah, a 1.8 square kilometre recreational area at the heart of the Pearl Village.The Eid prayer marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid. Muslims attending greet and congratulate each other right after the prayer in commemoration of Ramadan and salutation of Eid.

 

During the month of Ramadan Shell and the Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs, with the Qatar Guest Centre, together distributed 3,500 copies of the Holy Koran in over 20 languages to the Muslims working on the project. Taraweeh prayers, conducted especially in Ramadan, were performed in all of the mosques in the different camps within the village. Lectures and study circles were given by 10 Imams, Muslim religious leaders, from Qatar Guest Centre, to the many Muslims residing on site.

 

This is the third consecutive year, Qatar Shell has pursued close cooperation with this prominent Islamic centre to cater for the needs of thousands of Muslim workers on the Pearl project during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

 

Andy Brown, Shell’s Executive Vice President Qatar said, “We are grateful to the Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs and to Qatar Guest Centre for accommodating the religious needs of our Muslim colleagues during the Holy month of Ramadan, and I take opportunity to wish them all a Eid Mubarak”.

 

Over 48,000 workers from more than 60 nationalities are working on the Pearl Gas to Liquids Project. Pearl Gas to Liquid is the largest project ever launched in the state of Qatar, and is being developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell. It will be the world’s largest GTL plant and will cement Qatar’s place as the GTL capital of the world.
