The couple set their latest record driving a Volkswagen Jetta TDi through all 48 states in continental USA– nearly 15,300km (over 9,500 miles) – in 2009. They started from a Shell service station in Virginia, USA, and filled up on Shell Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel at 13 pre-selected Shell stations.

Their average fuel consumption was 3.5 litres per 100 kilometres, or 67 miles to the gallon – 16 miles above the US Environmental Protection Agency rating for their vehicle. The couple followed FuelSave tips developed with Shell, such as driving smoothly, looking after the engine and tyres, using a high-quality fuel, and avoiding higher speeds.

“If everyone from our home country Australia cut their fuel usage by just ten percent, combined they’d save $5,160,000 a day!” says Mr. Taylor. “It would also make a massive difference in CO2 emissions.”

The Taylors’ other fuel economy records include the Guinness World Records Drive around the World in 78 days, using just 24 tanks of Fuel Economy formula fuel - and national records in Asia, Oman, South Africa and the USA.

They have proved that using Fuel Economy Formula fuels, simple driving techniques and vehicle maintenance tips can help get the most out of every drop – and they run fuel economy workshops across the world to educate governments, fleets and the public on how to improve fuel economy.
