Taking care of your LPG system

Your Shellane system is designed to operate with minimum attention. Follow these instructions carefully and it will give you safe and trouble free usage:

Store your Shellane cylinder in well-ventilated areas. Avoid storing inside cabinets. Store cylinder at least 1 meter away from electrical switches and outlets, and 3 meters from sources of open/naked flame. Always keep cylinder in upright position. Never invert cylinder or let it lie horizontally on the floor. When you receive your Shellane cylinder, check the orange security seal if it is firmly affixed on the valve. The orange security seal is your guarantee that you are buying safe and genuine Shellane. Use only LPG resistant rubber hoses with safety clamps, and regularly check them for wear, cracks, and leaks. Buy your Shellane, RECA regulator and LPG hose from authorized Shellane distributors and retail outlets only.

Shellane Accessories

Ensure your safety. Buy only recommended Shellane accessories from your neighborhood authorized Shellane distributor or retail outlet.

RECA is the only recommended regulator brand by Shellane. It is Italian made and has a built-in automatic shut off device to ensure your safety.

Use only LPG resistant rubber hoses for your LPG system. Use the safety clips to fasten the LPG hose to your regulator and stove. This helps prevent leaks from loose connections.

What do you do when you smell gas?

Follow these steps when you smell gas:

Switch off the LPG regulator. Put off all naked flame. Never touch any electrical switch or use the telephone at the scene. Fully open doors and windows to disperse the LPG vapor. Perform leak testing with the use of a soap and water solution. If the leak is severe, bring tank in an open and well-ventilated area. If the situation is serious, evacuate the scene immediately. Contact the nearest authorized Shellane distributor.

What do you do when going on vacation

When going on vacation, always remember to follow these steps:

Turn off the regulator but do not remove it. Perform a leak test using a soap and water solution. First apply the solution to the hose, then to the connection between the regulator and valve, then to the cylinder body. Leaks are indicated by enlarged bubbles.

In case of emergency

Follow these steps immediately in case of emergency:

  • Eliminate all sources of ignition immediately. Do not switch on/ off electrical switches as they may cause sparks.
  • Close the main gas valve to stop the flow of gas.
  • Open windows, doors and other openings to increase ventilation.
  • Evacuate all personnel not involved in handling the emergency.
  • If leak is on the cylinder, bring the cylinder to a well ventilated and isolated area.
  • Cover leaking portion with wet cloth and/or spray water to disperse vapor cloud.

If escaping vapor catches fire:

  • Shutoff main gas valve as well as other valves along the gas line.
  • If the cylinder catches fire, spray water on the upper portion of the cylinder to keep it cool. Attempt to put out the fire only if the leak can be stopped.
  • Call FIRE DEPT.
