It was organized as Shell Chemical Company (Philippines) Inc. in 1960 with 60% Filipino ownership and 40% Shell Petroleum N.V. equity. In April, 1999, the newly organized SCPI took over Shell Chemical Company (Phils.) in line with the Shell chemical business' strategy to seek continued improvements in the cost and effectiveness of its marketing operations consistent with the regional organization. The SCPI chemical plant in Pandacan, Manila is ISO 9002 certified and is a member of Chemical Industries Association of the Philippines (SPIK) affiliated with Asean-Chemical Industries Club. SCPI is one of the signatories in the "Responsible Care Program," being currently initiated in the Philippines. As such, SCPI encourages the responsible development, introduction, manufacture, transportation, storage, handling, distribution, use and ultimate disposal of chemicals and chemical products so as to minimize adverse effect on human health and well-being and on the environment. SCPI is a local company managed by Filipinos sensitive to the needs of the Philippine industries for Industrial Chemicals and Polymers & Specialty Chemicals. Product includes Alipathic Hydrocarbon Solvents, Aromatics, Ketones, Alcohols, Glycol Ethers/Esters, Thermoplastics, Polyols, Styrene Monomer, and Propylene Glycols among others.
