Shell Votes For Earth, Joins Earth Hour 2009

27/03/2009

Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) will join the rest of the world in the historic Earth Hour event on March 28, 2009, Saturday, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

In support of this global initiative to address climate change, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation and the Malampaya Joint Venture Partners (Chevron, PNOC and Shell Philippines Exploration) launched a communications campaign among its staff and across various Shell offices, installations and retail stations nationwide. On March 28, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, red bar canopy lights in all Shell retail stations nationwide, billboard lights and area lights in Shell offices, refinery and depots will be switched off all over the country.

Financial support was similarly given to the Earth Hour national convenors in support of various energy conservation programmes.

SciP Country Chairman Edgar Chua said “Securing a responsible energy future’ summarises Shell’s thrust in making a contribution towards sustainable development. This requires integrating economic, environmental, and social considerations in decision-making. This begins at home, making sure we manage our environmental impacts, as well as working with partners in programmes and projects such as Earth Hour – promoting no harm to the environment – for this generation and the future generations to come.”

Earth Hour is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. This year, Earth Hour has set a remarkable goal of getting one billion people to switch off their lights as part of a global vote for Earth and against climate change.
