 Forty-four top chess players from different parts of the country battled for a seat in the prestigious roster of Shell National Youth Active Chess grand champions which was won by Bacolod’s pride Jerich Cajeras of West Negros University and Nelson Mariano III, younger brother of former Shell Active Chess champion Grandmaster Nelson Mariano II, of University of the East in the Kiddies and Juniors division, respectively. The Shell Active Chess program, which supports the empowerment of the youth as part of the company’s overall Sustainable Development commitment, is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and is backed by Shell Fuels, Shellane, Shell Helix, Shell Rimula, Shell Advance and McDonald’s, in cooperation with SM Supermalls, LCC Mall – Naga, and Brickstone Mall – Tuguegarao City.
