With the maximum roster of 500 already filled up as early as two weeks ago, the chase for the top three spots in the Kiddies and Juniors division – and berths in the national finals – are expected to be tight in the Central Visayas elims.
Twenty four players – 12 each in the 14-under and 20-under classes – have clinched spots in the grand finals slated on November 8-9 at SM Megamall with 20 more to be culled from the last three legs of the nationwide talent-search sponsored by Pilipinas Shell.
From Cebu, the tournament, which has produced the likes of Grand Masters Wesley So and Mark Paragua, will go to Iloilo for the Western Visayas leg on August 30-31 at SM City Iloilo before it hops to Mindanao for the last leg on September 13-14 at SM City Davao.
The circuit, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines is backed by Shell Fuels, Shellane, Shell Helix, Shell Rimula, Shell Advance and McDonald’s, in cooperation with SM Supermalls, LCC Mall – Naga, and Brickstone Mall – Tuguegarao City.
