James Ryan Fernandez of Naga City  (3rd from right) captured the Juniors division crown in the tiebreak over his three other rivals during the 16th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship – Southern Luzon Leg (Naga) held recently at the LCC Mall in Naga City.  He finished off the seven round Swiss System tournament with 6 points and 33 Bucholz points.

Sharing the score of 6 points with Fernandez were Paulo James Florendo of Rizal Technological University (2nd from right) and Sherwin Tiu (3rd from left) who landed on the first and second runner up spots, respectively.

The winners bagged seats in the Shell Active Chess grand finals slated on November 8-9, 2008 and took home trophies and cash prizes.
