Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation fulfills its vision of helping its family members in the retail outlets, with the graduation of its first batch of scholars under the Gas Mo, Bukas Ko (GMBK) program. GMBK served as hope and light to Shell retail station staff scholars who, mainly for financial reasons, were unable to finish their studies. Through GMBK, the scholarship beneficiaries were finally able to achieve their dream of graduating from their chosen courses while working at the same time. Shell Dealers felt a sense of pride seeing their staff emerge as confident and skilled in their respective fields.

Fifty-nine (59) of the GMBK Luzon scholars from NCR, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Batangas received their certificates of training completion in Automobile Mechanic, Basic Computer & Hardware Configuration, Computer Technician, Consumer Electronics and Food Preparation courses from Pilipinas Shell and their respective schools. Officials from the Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati, STI, Las Piñas Manpower and Youth Council, and Nego-skwela witnessed the important event for the first batch of recent GMBK graduates. Medals and cash prizes were awarded to eleven scholars who showed exceptional performance during their training. Shell companies in the Philippines (Scip) Country Chair Edgar Chua, together with Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) Chairman Cesar Buenaventura and Executive Director Edgardo Veron Cruz, Retail Sales and Operations General Manager Sammy De Guzman, Association of Petroleum Shell Dealers, Inc. President Charrie Antonio and its Director for Public Affairs Terry Valladores, led a group of dealers, educational partner institution officials and Shell staff in congratulating the scholars for achieving their dream.
The scholars felt joy and pride as their names were called on stage to receive their certificates. Some were teary-eyed as they heard their fellow scholars applause for them during the awarding ceremonies. All the scholars felt victorious as they reminisced the challenges they faced while on training. For the dealers who were present, a firm handshake, pat on the back or a hug for their scholars showed just how proud they were of them.
The graduation rite was the culminating activity for the 59 retail station staff who make up GMBK’s first batch of scholars. As they begin a new chapter in their lives, the pioneering scholars of GMBK are assured that armed with the knowledge gained from the skills training and the positive work values gained from program workshops such as LEAD (Leadership Enhancement and Attitude Development), they can look forward to achieving their goals and go further in life.
