With Wesley’s recent win, he has proven once more that Filipinos are worthy of international recognition in the chess arena,” said Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Communications Roberto S. Kanapi. So was one of the successful graduates of the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship (Shell Active Chess), the longest running grass roots program that tirelessly aims to hone Filipino youth's talent in the field of chess. Shell Active Chess was his first major tournament at the age of 8, before capturing the Shell Active Chess National Kiddies Division Championship at the age of 11. His recent win in the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad is a fulfillment of Shell Active Chess’ vision of producing world-class Filipino talents. So emerged as the top scorer among the Board One players of the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad with 8 wins, two draws and no losses.
