A total number of 600 participants in the Kiddies and Juniors divisions are expected in the Davao tournament, paving the way for the biggest field in the stage elims.
Thirty-six players – 18 each in the 14-under and 20-under categories – have clinched spots in the grand finals with 8 more to be culled from the final leg of the nationwide talent-search sponsored by Pilipinas Shell.
The tournament, which has produced the likes of Grandmasters Wesley So and Mark Paragua, will hold its grand finals on November 8-9 at SM Megamall.
The circuit, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and backed by Shell Fuels, Shellane, Shell Helix, Shell Rimula, Shell Advance and McDonald’s, in cooperation with SM Supermalls, LCC Mall – Naga, and Brickstone Mall – Tuguegarao City, offers Php 30,000 to the Juniors champion and P20,000 to the Kiddie winner.
