Ed Chua, President and Chairman of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, said: “The centre, a world-class facility and the first in the Philippines, will focus on the emulsion portfolio, and as such, will be a key enabler towards more widespread use of the Shell Instapave system.” Mr. Chua said Shell’s bitumen technologies leadership, created by its global research and technology development investments with Shell Global Solutions, has already been recognized by more than 1,600 businesses in 35 countries, as one of the core business strength. This strength, he said, will help expand Shell’s bitumen businesses in the Philippines and take the company closer to ‘Road Pavement Solutions’ leadership.
Shell is the largest bitumen distributor in Asia and the Pacific. Having the Bitumen Solutions Centre here in the Philippines, therefore, will help accommodate demands for different types of bitumen and new innovative pavement solutions.
The facility will also be the centre for learning and sharing knowledge on bituminous products and road pavement solutions to both public and private agencies in the country.
Randy Anastacio, Country Manager for Bitumen, said the centre’s main duties are mixture design and solution development as well as pavement solution engineering to meet local needs and deliver expert field support. Shell’s readiness in terms of technology solutions, it’s personnel and professional support would guarantee this as a one-stop service of quality products and pavement solutions to our customers.
“We are the trailblazer in the solutions-selling segment and we intend to grow and continue leading this market segment in the years to come,” says Mr. Anastacio. “Shell has highly-experienced specialists who can give customers thorough knowledge and expert advice as well as show them how the product and pavement solutions perform and add value to, and maximise benefits for, not only road owners but more importantly, members of the community. It is innovation to everyone’s advantage,’’ he added.
