Before the pedaling kicked off, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committees on Health and Demography, and Environment and Natural Resources, and Spokesperson of the Philippine Cancer Society, said that, “Bike for Hope promotes environmental awareness and a healthy lifestyle. I am glad that at last this advocacy reached Bicol to further promote this worthwhile cause.” The Bike for Hope event supports various health, educational, sports and environmental projects. Breastfeeding seminars, Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children seminars, and Ecological Solid Waste Management seminars were conducted as part of the event.
More than 600 cycling enthusiasts from all over the Philippines converged at the Magsaysay Avenue Shell Station, Naga City, before covering the 100km bike ride from Naga City to Legazpi City, which passed through more than 10 towns.
Pilipinas Shell has been a keen supporter of the Bike for Hope advocacy since 2004. With sustainable development as one of its main thrusts, Shell continues to be a champion of various programs on social development and environmental conservation.
