Top students join other Asia-Pacific contingents in the 2005 Shell Gourami Business Challenge

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. fielded eight outstanding students from top universities in Manila who participated in the 2005 Shell Gourami Business Challenge held recently in Langkawi, Malaysia.

 

Out of 165 outstanding students who applied, only the top 18 students were selected to undergo a one-day evaluation and assessment in the commercial and technical discipline by the screening panel composed of Shell managers. Of the 18 qualifiers, eight (8) students were chosen to join other students from other countries in the first run of the Shell Gourami Business Challenge in Asia Pacific. Other participants came from Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, China and the Middle East (Egypt).

 

The Philippine contingent was Ateneo de Manila University’s Belle De Guzman (Management Economics), Michael Son (Economics), University of the Philippines’ Jayjay Perlado (Business Administration & Accountancy), Jake Zepeda (Chemical Engineering), Isabel dela Cruz (Industrial Engineering), Maureen Valencia (Business Administration), Teena Carnay (Business Administration & Accountancy), and De La Salle University’s Donna Chua (Electronics & Communications Engineering).

 

The Shell Gourami Business Challenge is a weeklong business and technical challenge offered to undergraduates with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and a minimum CAR score of 3.5 taking up Mechanical, Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Accounting, and Marketing.  Running in Europe for over 15 years now, the global program being conducted by Shell proved to be successful in providing a constant stream of talented individuals to the company. During the business challenge, participants earned first-hand knowledge in the many facets and exciting work opportunities in the energy business.
