Up for grabs in the two-day event slated July 23-24 are spots in the national finals with the top three placers in both the juniors (20-years-old-and-below) and kiddies (14-under) divisions advancing to the grand finals set Oct. 15-16 at SM North Edsa. The juniors and kiddies leg champions will also get P5,000 and P4,000, respectively. Registration is ongoing on a first-come, first-served basis. Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School’s (Rizal) Narquinden Reyes topped the juniors and kiddies divisions, respectively, of the National Capital Region elims to lead the NCR finalists who include Omar Bagalacsa and Melvin Palomata (juniors) and Loren Brigham Laceste and Mari Joseph Turqueza (kiddies). University of the East’s Eugene Pimentel (juniors) and Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Jude Emil Fronda (kiddies) ruled the Northern Luzon Leg (Baguio) last week to tow UST‘s Vic Neil Villanueva and La Salle’s Jayson Salubre (juniors), and Amran Ezra Rivas and John Ranel Morazo (kiddies) into the grand finals. The Tuguegarao leg serves as the third of the eight-stage nationwide series spread over eight regions. The event, which has produced the likes of GM Nelson Mariano II and GM-candidate Mark Paragua, is backed by Shell Better Mileage Gasolines, Accel, Cebu Pacific, McDonald's Philippines, and Shellane in cooperation with SM Supermalls, Gaisano Mall (Davao City) and Lim Ketkai Mall (Cagayan de Oro City). A P20,000 grand prize is at stake in the juniors class while the kiddie champion will receive P10,000. The national finals is set Oct. 15-16 at SM City North EDSA, Quezon City.
