The Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship (SNYACC) is on its second year in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan and gathered 238 participants from different towns in Cagayan, provinces like Baguio City, Isabela, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, and even as far as Metro Manila during the Northern Luzon Leg - Tuguegarao on July 23-24, 2005.

In his welcome remarks, Tuguegarao City Mayor Randolph Ting underscored the importance of giving youth avenues to develop their talents and skills. After all the games and all the scores summed up, Far Eastern University sophomore Froilan Bolico III seized first place in the Juniors division with a score of 6.0 and Bucholz of 32.5. Arnold Dableo of University of Santo Tomas won second place with a score of 6.0 and Bucholz of 31.5 and third place went to Mark Oliver Ingcad of University of the East with a score of 6.0 and Bucholz of 30.5. The other finishers in the division were Ramon Manon-Og of University of Santo Tomas copping the fourth place while fifth place went to John Robert Bumatay of Cagayan National High School. Battling for the supremacy in the Kiddies division, 11-year old Franz Robert Grafil of Colegio de San Pascual Baylon in Obando, Bulacan emerged as leg champion in the division with a perfect score of 7.0. Twelve year old Haridas Pascua of REM Life Dream School in Pangasinan seized the second place with a score of 6.5 and Bucholz of 33.5 while third place went to Jan Jodilyn Fronda of Philippine Christian University in Manila. Fronda also won the Overall Top Female player award. Malone Chavez of Baguio City National High School and Akiko Suede of Pitogo High School in Guadalupe, Makati won fourth and fifth place respectively. Tuguegarao West Central in Tuguegarao City clinched the School Most Represented in the Kiddies Division with a delegation of 53 players. In the Juniors Division, University of Saint Louis, also in Tuguegarao City, sent a delegation of 14 players to the tournament. Four-years & 10 months old Alexis Charlotte M. Suede of Nemesio Yabut Elementary School received the youngest player award. Pilipinas Shell General Manager for External Affairs Roberto Kanapi joined Mayor Ting during the opening of Shell Active Chess tournament in Tuguegarao while Pilipinas Shell Distributor Management Executive Emi Marie Arboleda led the awarding and closing of the tournament with Provincial Sports Coordinator Mariano Cabugos. To strengthen the chess club in the Tuguegarao, Mayor Ting sponsored a two-day Chess Arbitration Workshop held at the 2nd floor of People's Gymnasium in Tuguegarao City. Members of the Tuguegarao Chess Club led by its president Rommel Pe Benito and some local government officials participated in the workshop conducted by International Chess Arbiter Gene Poliarco.
