Chua is one of the four winners chosen among 20 nominees in the Manufacturing Category. The nominees are evaluated by independent judges on the basis of set criteria and are not competing against each other.

Country Chair Ed Chua was awarded for his leadership in the SciP programs including Leaders and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Initiative, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management and Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Advocacy.

As Country Chairman, Chua led significant programs for the organisation that did not only achieve its valuable objectives but also fostered a corporate culture of collaborative effort involving employees, partners, and neighbours. He has been in active support of advocacies on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development to contribute to nation building. He similarly led the promotion of Health, Safety, and Environment by sharing his know-how to the business industry as elected chairman of the Philippine Business for the Environment and co-chairman of the Environment Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines. As designated chair of the Business Cluster on Health of the “Business and Millennium Development Goals Initiative”, Chua helped organize the country’s business sector to synergize efforts in the health area towards the achievement of the Millennium Development targets.

The CEO Excel Awards, the local version of the world IABC Excel Award, is given to senior executives who have successfully harnessed communication in advancing the reputation, enhancing the profitability or achieving major objectives of their organizations.

The annual competition is meant to raise public awareness on the importance of communication in business and organizational management, to recognise top-level executives or managers who have shown extraordinary skills as communicators, and to present their accomplishments as models of best practices in organisational communication.
