Shell sends service station employees to La Salle night school

05/10/2005

Through the partnership of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and La Salle Green Hills Adult Night School Foundation (LSGH-ANHS), 50 service station employees from different Shell service stations in Metro Manila will undergo a 6-month training on basic computer and auto gas mechanic course as part of the Shell ‘Gas Mo, Bukas Ko’ program.

Pilipinas Shell donated Php1 million to LSGH-ANHS to carry out a skills training program for working adults enrolled in the ANHS program. The training commenced on September 26, 2005 and will run until March 16, 2006. Graduates will earn a TESDA/PAASCU accredited certificate during the commencement exercises to be held on March 17, 2006 at La Salle Green Hills.

Not only that the scholars can perform day work in their respective retail stations, but also have a chance to upgrade their technical skills by studying at night. Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) conducted screening examinations and interview with the applicants for the scholarship funded by Pilipinas Shell.  Through this program, Shell forecourt attendants like Jonathan Permejo and Richard Tormes of Shell Gate Service Station will now have a chance to a better life through the non-formal skills training program of the La Salle Green Hills Adult Night School Foundation Inc.

“It’s really a privilege to be La Salle’s partner in this program. Through this partnership that we pushed with the support of our dealers, which is a good fit in our Sustainable Development program, this may be a good model in making a difference in the lives of the scholars and their families - this is our contribution to nation building,” said Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) Country Chairman Edgar Chua.
