SciP Country Chairman Edgar Chua presented the check donation, which was received for the University by DLSU system President Brother Armin Luistro - FSC. The scholarship fund was committed and confirmed by Pilipinas Shell to DLSU-M in December 2004 to augment the existing scholarship funds for the Chemical Engineering program of the University. “Shell’s competitive advantage lies with its people and our company has been fortunate to be the recipient of quite a number of DLSU graduates. With this, I believe that it is just fair to give something back to the university for being a major source of Shell’s talent pool,” said Chua during his speech. He also underscored the DLSU education’s emphasis on values formation and its unwavering commitment to the development of competent, service-oriented and socially responsible professionals and leaders. Lastly, Chua lauded the University’s goal to put 20% of its student population under scholarship by year 2011. Chua obtained his BS Chemical Engineering from DLSU-Manila in 1978 and was a Gold Medal Awardee for Outstanding Leadership in Chemical Engineering from the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineering. Together with Chua during the awarding rites were Pilipinas Shell Vice President for External Affairs Romeo De Guzman, General Manager for External Roberto Kanapi, and Vice President for Human Resources Joel Esguerra. Also present were DLSU-Manila Executive Vice President Dr. Carmelita Quebengco, Presidential Adviser for Academics and Research Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC, DLSU Science Foundation, Inc.
