Beginning December 10, the test will be available in selected 100 Shell stations nationwide. This new service is a part of FuelStretch, a Shell global campaign designed to help motorists go further. “Oil is like the lifeblood of car engines. The wrong type of oil, lack of engine oil or oil that is in poor condition decrease the car’s efficiency and can even seriously damage the engine. This is why we want to provide consumers with a tool that allows them to easily monitor their car’s engine oil. We believe that this simple and quick test can go a long way in helping motorists make the most out of their car and their fuel consumption”, shared Randy del Valle, Shell Fuels Brand Manager. The OVI test uses a special gadget that allows motorists to make sure that their car’s engine oil level is okay and in good condition, and able to perform its functions – lubricate the engine’s moving parts, maintain engine cleanliness, prevent rusting and help cool the engine. Factors such as the type of oil, driving habits, driving conditions and type of car can influence the rate at which oil degrades. By assessing the engine oil’s vitality and determining whether it is ‘Fresh’, ‘Tired’ or ‘Exhausted’, the driver can determine when exactly the oil has to be changed. This test uses a simple traffic light concept to easily tell the condition of your oil. A ‘Fresh’ or “green” reading says that the car’s motor oil is still in good condition and working effectively. ‘Tired’ or “yellow” means that the motor oil is losing its working effectiveness and its vitality must be closely monitored. An ‘Exhausted’ or “red” color indicates that the oil has degraded significantly and has lost its effectiveness. An oil change must be done as soon as possible. All this can be done while your car is being refueled, so you don’t lose any time. Shell oil vitality consultants will be present on-site to administer the test and give a recommendation on what should be done. And to make things even easier, discounts at the Helix Service Centers can be availed by motorists who made use of the OVI test. As part of the FuelStretch campaign, the OVI is a concrete manifestation of how Shell works harder than anyone else to help you get the most out of your fuel consumption, by helping ensure motorists that the engine oil of their vehicles is at its optimum, which ultimately maintains the car’s efficiency.
