Spearheaded by Sen. Pia Cayetano, over 700 bikers from different towns in Cebu, Surigao, and Manila donned in their colorful attires with their mountain bikes to join in the 120-kilometer route bike ride, which started from Cebu IT Park, passed through Mandaue City, Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Danao, Carmen, Catmon, and Sogod. The event culminated at the Mandaue Sports Complex.

“The Bike for Hope is a symbolism of hope for Filipinos to have good quality of life in terms of education, health, and environment. It is a celebration of life, which aims to raise awareness and seek support for various health projects and emphasize the importance of the Clean Air Act drive,” said cyclist Sen. Pia Cayetano.

The Cebu run is the third staging of the charity event. The 2nd Bike for Hope was staged in Northern Luzon on January 15, 2005 where some 300 bikers also joined the biking senator from the town of Rosario, La Union to Baguio City. The first Bike for Hope was likewise held in Baguio City in 2003.

The Compañero Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit organization created in the memory of the late Senator Compañero Renato L. Cayetano, which aims to organize various projects related to health, education, sports, youth development, and environment.
