Disabled If you become disabled, you may be entitled to a disability pension. The precondition is that you are unable, due to sickness, deficiency, pregnancy or confinement, with little likelihood of recovery, to earn more than 20 per cent of the salary that healthy persons with similar qualifications and experience generally earn. The Pension Fund decides on the existence of such disability. A Shell physician designated by the Pension Fund makes the assessment. Accrual of pension entitlements
While the disability pension is being paid, you continue to accrue retirement pension until you turn 65. You are not required to pay any contributions towards this. You will accrue not more than 100 per cent of your pension basis, at which point accrual ceases. It is possible that this maximum is exceeded in individual cases. The disability pension amounts to: - 100% of your salary up to the maximum of salary group 6 (EUR 63,659)
- 70% over that part of your salary above this maximum.

Statutory disability benefits If you are entitled to any (statutory) benefits, such as under the WAO (Wet Arbeidsongeschiktheid) or WIA (Wet Werk en Inkomen naar Arbeidsvermogen), you are obliged to apply for such a benefit. Benefits under the WAO/WIA are administered by the UWV (Uitvoeringsinstituut Werknemersverzekeringen), this is the body administering occupational insurance arrangements (see 'useful links'). Each month, the Pension Fund receives notification about changes to statutory disability benefits and benefits are deducted from your Shell pension until ther age of 65. Partially disabled You are not entitled to a disability pension if you become partially disabled. You can find more information about partial disability on the Shell intranet (SWW), on de site 'HR Online'. You can find more information about your pension in the event that you are disabled and in the subsequent event of your predecease on this site under ‘Pension and predecease’.
