Chris Cairns walks for rail safety

printable version
"Shell fundamentally believes that all accidents are preventable, so we put a lot of emphasis on educating people and changing the way we think about safety. We are delighted to join forces with the Chris Cairns foundation and put our support behind such an important safety issue" Rob Jager, Country Chairman, Shell New Zealand

On Monday 18 August, Chris Cairns will start the longest walk of his life when he walks 1001 kms from Auckland to Christchurch.  The main purpose of the walk is to raise funds and awareness for rail safety. It is also in memory of Chris' sister Louise who was killed, along with two other young women, when the train they were passengers on was hit by a cement truck which had failed to stop at a level crossing.

As Shell is a foundation partner of the Chris Cairns Foundation, Chris has agreed that he will start and finish each day of his walk at a Shell Service Station where possible.  Shell is also proud to be supplying the fuel for the support vehicles during the walk.
