Safety education is of primary importance in our country which suffers high incidence of road accidents. For more than four decades, the Shell Traffic Games (STG), a Shell innovation brought to Malaysia in 1957 after it had been introduced and proven successful in Holland and other European countries, is considered one of the major educational tools in road safety awareness for the young. |
This project has also provided an opportunity for Shell to form a smart partnership with Majlis Keselamatan Jalan Raya (MKJR) and other government agencies including the police, education departments, road transport department and the local authorities as well as the auxiliary bodies. |
The running and organising of STG is the combined effort of Shell and these government organisations. The STGs are conducted on a specially equipped site in a safe location using pedal cars, bicycles and pedestrians. More than 26,000 students from 1,300 schools in Sabah and Sarawak and the Peninsular participated in the Shell Traffic Games annually. Shell also went one step further by introducing road safety education to special children in Kota Kinabalu and Miri. These special traffic games were spearheaded by the Company's Young Graduates Club members together with the Malaysian Senior Staff Council, Unions and spouse. |
