Shell MDS Middle Distillates are characterised by their high paraffinicity, the absence of nitrogen, sulphur and aromatics as well as by low density and high cetane number. They have very low odour and are water white, properties that are becoming standard requirements of customers world wide.
Shell MDS Naphtha Shell MDS Naphtha is highly paraffinic and ideal as an ethylene feedstock. The product typically gives a higher ethylene and propylene yield compared to crude oil derived Naphtha. Shell MDS Kerosene Shell MDS Kerosene has excellent combustion properties with low emissions, suitable as lamp oils and greenhouse fuel. It can also be used as feedstocks for the manufacture of linear paraffins for detergent intermediates. Shell MDS Gasoil SMDS Gasoil has excellent combustion properties with exceptionally high cetane number and flash point, negligible sulphur and aromatics. It is an excellent upgrading component for ordinary gasoil to meet various environmental and emission legislations. Due to its high paraffinicity, it is also ideal as feedstock in the manufacture of chloroparaffins. |

N-paraffin C10-C13 Linear paraffins, C10 - C13 fraction or Light Detergent Feedstock (LDF) are widely used in the manufacture of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB), an intermediate for the production of Linear Alkyl-Benzene Sulphonate (LAS), the most widely used surfactants in the detergent industry.
N-paraffin C14-C17 Linear paraffins, C14 - C17 fraction or Detergent Feedstock (HDF) are widely used in the manufacture of Paraffin Sulphonates (washing up liquid formulations) and chloroparaffins (PVC plasticisers ) of exceptionally high quality in terms of heat stability and colour.

Specialty waxes are produced by vacuum distillation of the HPS streams. The high linearity and narrow carbon number distribution of Shell MDS waxes results in a consistent product suitable for a range of applications, e.g. hot melt adhesives, printing inks, cable filling, match sticks, corrugated board, fibre board and PVC lubricants. The unique white colour of Shell MDS waxes is ideal for application requiring colour additive, e.g. crayons, candles, graphic arts and other decorative items. The opaque appearance produces true colour brilliance with minimum colouring agents.
Shell MDS waxes, Shell Sarawax SX-70, Shell Sarawax SX-100 and Shell Sarawax SX-105, comply with the United States Food and Drugs Administration regulations for indirect food contact applications. The wax grades are produced as slabs or granules which are transported in containers or as liquid which are shipped in bulk at elevated temperature. The various grades of Shell MDS waxes are :
- Shell Sarawax SX-50
 - Shell Sarawax SX-55R
- Shell Sarawax SX-60M
- Shell Sarawax SX-70
- Shell Sarawax SX-100
- Shell Sarawax SX-105

Waxy Raffinate, produced by hydroisomerisation and redistillation of waxy streams, yields a base oil of extremely high viscosity index and very low Noack volatility. After dewaxing, waxy raffinate produces a fully synthetic base oil Shell XHVI® and the largest use is in top tier and premium tier automotive engine oils.
