Shell, A Global Leader In Diesel Fuel Technology, Supports Bosch Diesel Day In Malaysia

14/11/2005

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 - 15 November 2005

Shell Malaysia is pleased to be the sole supplier of diesel for Bosch Diesel Day in Kuala Lumpur. The event is organised by Robert Bosch (SEA) Pte Ltd (Bosch) and will be held for the first time in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

Said Mohzani Wahab, Managing Director, Shell Malaysia Trading SB and Shell Timur SB, "The Company is pleased to be a partner to Bosch, which is the world’s number one producer of diesel fuel injection systems and largest automotive supplier in terms of sales, in promoting clean diesel fuel and technology in Malaysia. Shell Malaysia itself plays a leading role in the overall development of innovative fuels and solutions to meet global energy demand and in the development of environmentally friendly fuels, which will help contribute to a cleaner global environment."

Shell's leadership in diesel fuel technology is evident from the innovations in many countries.  An example of this is the early introduction of Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) with 50ppm of sulphur in Singapore, ahead of legislation. This ULSD is also powering the diesel cars at the Bosch Diesel Day event in Sepang.  Another case in point is the development of GTL (Gas to Liquids) technology, which converts natural gas to ultra-clean liquid hydrocarbons in Shell's commercial GTL plant in Bintulu, Sarawak.  GTL Diesel is currently supplied to Thailand and Europe where it is used to produce clean, semi-synthetic diesel fuel.

Eric Holthusen, Fuels Technology Manager, Shell Global Solutions further commented, “The diesel engine, invented over 100 years ago, has over the last ten years seen a particularly rapid succession of technological breakthroughs. This has resulted in more efficient and powerful performance, which drivers of diesel vehicles enjoy today. Today’s diesel engines are designed to be quiet, responsive and highly fuel-efficient, but ensuring they continue to run at the peak of their performance places huge demands on the fuel. As a global leader in diesel fuel technology, Shell has been continually monitoring these developments and working on innovative new fuel technologies to match them.”

"A pioneer in diesel fuel technology to date, Shell's involvement in Bosch Diesel Day is very appropriate. We are pleased to have them onboard as a partner in our efforts to offer motorists an environmentally-friendly way to better performance and value," said Mr Odd Joergenrud, Vice President, Automotive Aftermarket Sales, Asia Pacific, Robert Bosch.

Bosch Diesel Day is dedicated to raise awareness of developments in modern diesel technology in passenger cars and to demonstrate that modern diesel fuel and diesel technology can help to improve air quality. Visitors to Bosch Diesel Day will be able to learn about the latest in diesel fuel and diesel technology through exhibition booths, presentations and have hands-on driving experience of the diesel passenger cars featuring the latest in diesel technology and diesel fuel from Shell and leading car manufacturers amidst a carnival-like atmosphere. Bosch Diesel Day takes place at the Sepang Formula One circuit on 14 and 15 November 2005 and is open to trade and invited guests only.
