24 February 2005, Kuala Lumpur A Malaysian management accounting student has once again emerged the “World Top Scorer” in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Financial Reporting (International Standards) November 2004 examination. In May last year, Andre Khor, a 23-year old finance executive with Shell Malaysia’s Downstream Commercial Business created history in the management accounting sector when he became the first Malaysian to win the world’s top placing in the CIMA examination for the Systems and Project Management paper. Said Andre, “I did not expect to win for a second time and I am humbled by the achievement. I owe it to the support of my family, my loved ones and of course, Shell Malaysia, who is sponsoring my CIMA studies.” Andre scored the highest marks worldwide for the Financial Reporting (International Standards) paper. More than 34,000 students from around the world sat for the CIMA examinations in November 2004. In addition to the Institute’s prize which Andre will receive from CIMA’s headquarters in the United Kingdom, his achievement was celebrated recently with an award presentation by Y C Lee, President of CIMA Malaysia. The presentation ceremony was held at Bangunan Shell Malaysia, and was witnessed by Andre’s colleagues including Michael Taylor, Shell Finance Director, and Wahiruddin Abdul Wahid, Shell Corporate Affairs General Manager. Also present at the award presentation ceremony were Michael Eow, Deputy President of CIMA Malaysia, Sopiah Suid, Divisional Director, Ross Kamaruddin, Business Development Manager, Chan Siew Lian, PR and Information Manager and Norzaitolcima Zawazi, Business Development Executive. Other representatives from Shell included Andre’s supervisor, Wan Mohd Wan Azilah Wan Abdullah, Commercial Cluster Finance Manager Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia and Anthony Chong, Finance and Analysis Manager, Consumer Lubricants Asia Pacific. Speaking on Andre’s performance, Michael Taylor said, “Winning the World’s Top Scorer award twice is unprecedented in Shell worldwide and probably in Malaysia. Andre’s achievement should be an inspiration to all who wish to pursue professional qualifications whilst working. He is a fine example of “Malaysia Boleh” and how a good balance between work commitment and self-study will lead to success. For further exposure to international work experience and personal development , Andre will soon be based in Shell UK Oil Products, Manchester, United Kingdom, for a period of two years, as the Demand Manager (Central Pricing Desk). I am confident he will be a tremendous asset in his new position.” President of CIMA Malaysia, Y C Lee, in presenting the award to Andre, said, “CIMA Malaysia is very proud that Andre has won the world’s top placing once again. His outstanding achievement is also due to the great support from Shell in its commitment to the professional development of its staff. I am sure Andre’s win will encourage other CIMA students to do well.”
