You may be aware of an e-mail in circulation now on the internet, alleging that Shell and other petroleum retailing companies and their retail operators are cheating motorists and customers by tampering with the fuel pump equipment at retail stations nationwide. The email also alleges that motorists and customers refuelling at stations receive less petrol in their vehicle tanks as a result of the tampering with litre gauges at the fuel pumps. Shell Malaysia would like to assure all customers and motorists refuelling at Shell retail stations nationwide that the Company conducts full investigations into allegations of illegal business practices - an allegation which we take very seriously. All filling nozzles(spouts)have a built in cut off device that is intended to reduce the possibility of customers being splashed with fuel during filling. This device works by sensing the pressure coming out of the vehicle's petrol tank. As the tank gets fuller the pressure gets higher in the filling neck of the car and this is sensed by a valve in the nozzle which closes the flow. The hose and nozzle still hold fuel so there is no draining back to the stations' underground tanks. The metering of the fuel takes into account the amount of product in the hose and nozzle at the start and finish of the transaction so that the customer only pays for what is delivered into the tank. All pump equipment have also been checked and tested and found to be properly calibrated in full compliance with all local regulations, including those of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. In fact, all pumps are calibrated annually and sealed by the Weights & Measures Department of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. If you have received such an e-mail or have been asked about it, or have been approached for clarification and confirmation on this matter, please be informed that Shell Malaysia categorically denies these allegations and considers the circulation of the e-mail in question as malicious and slanderous to the reputation and business practice of the Company. If you know of anyone who is circulating the e-mail in question and/or spreading rumours regarding the Company's reputation, products and services - please inform us immediately. The Company will not hesitate to report such conduct to the Authorities and will take legal action against any such persons. Thank you for your support, understanding and cooperation.
