For the UK leg of the Tour, Ferrari specially built a 612 Scaglietti and painted it in the colours of British Police cars; this led the procession throughout the 1500 mile UK tour. The police vehicle was driven by representatives from five forces across the country who had given up their free time to support the 60th anniversary celebrations.
Proceeding from the North to the South of England fans were able to marvel at Maranello’s finest from throughout Ferrari’s momentous 60 years. The cars pulled in at a local Shell station in Harlow to refuel with Shell V-Power. Shell has been an important technical partner to Ferrari during the past 60 years. In fact, all Ferraris that are on the road, as well as the race track, have been developed in association with Shell fuel and lubricant engineers.
The Ferrari 60 Relay was greeted by the flashing cameras of fans when they made their way into London for a function at the Italian Embassy. After lunch the cars drove west into Wiltshire passing the celebratory baton in front of the legendary Stonehenge, before making their way in convoy to the Silverstone circuit.
The cars gathered at the race track where they formed the number 60 on the ground. This was followed by a performance by a helicopter from the Royal Navy, with the precious baton on board. The anniversary celebrations then moved to Greece for a two day tour.
