Ducati Desmosedici GP9
The Ducati Desmosedici MotoGP bike is fast becoming a racing legend. Find out more about the development of the long-awaited Ducati GP9.
Ducati Desmosedici GP9
Since first partnering in MotoGP in 2003, Ducati and Shell have produced some of the finest racing bikes to have graced the circuits of the world. The GP7 in 2007 was ridden to World Championship glory by Casey Stoner and despite the GP8 narrowly missing out on the title in 2008, this year's GP9 model looks to have all the components necessary to lead the world's best once more.
The all-new carbon-fibre frame, weighing in at just 148kg dry, houses Ducati's Desmosedici power plant that has impressed since its inception. Shell Advance Ultra 4 motor oil lubricates the 90 degree V4 four-stroke engine, generating over 200 horsepower from just under 800cc.
In an era of no re-fuelling, the 21 litre tank has to hold all the fuel needed for the race. The Shell V-Power Racing fuel is designed to allow the Ducati engine to realise as much power as possible, whilst balancing the fuel efficiency.

Shell's technicians, both in Hamburg in Germany and Thornton in the UK, have worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Ducati engineers to ensure that the fuel and lubricants package can provide this perfect balance on the track.
New rider, Nicky Hayden spoke to Shell Motorsport ahead of the season and commented on the new GP9, saying: "When I rode the bike I immediately liked it and felt comfortable straight away. The engine is very strong and the chassis was really stable and I've got more to learn. So far I am really happy!"
The GP9 promises to become a MotoGP great and with the expertise of Shell alongside Ducati Corse, the signs are positive.
