Shell UK commits to National Institute of Energy Technologies

Shell UK Limited (“Shell”) today announced its support for the National Institute of Energy Technologies as outlined in the 2006 Budget report speech.

The National Institute of Energy Technologies will be a public and private partnership aimed at making the UK a world leader in energy technologies.

Jeroen van der Veer, Royal Dutch Shell plc, Chief Executive said, "Technology and innovation is central to Shell's strategy. Shell has leading technologies in hydrocarbon production, in carbon mitigation and in renewables. Shell often works in partnership in the development of new technologies. Harnessing public and private sector capability through the new Institute will be a great boost to ensuring there is clean and sufficient energy both nationally and internationally”.

Shell's technology base includes leading technologies in finding and producing hydrocarbons and in making clean transport fuels and lubricants. Shell is the world's largest marketer of biofuels and, together with partners, has leading technologies in second generation biofuels. Shell has leading gas to liquids and clean coal technologies as well as a leading position in thin-film solar technology.  Together with partners, Shell is aiming to develop in the Thames estuary, what will be one of the world's largest wind farms. Shell is also involved in development of hydrogen with stations in the US, Europe and Asia, again with partners.
