Shell Lubricants have been commended for an outstanding performance in the supply of production fuels and lubricants to DaimlerChrysler in 2004. Shell Lubricants was one of eight businesses honoured by DaimlerChrysler's International Procurement Services in May at a ceremony held in Stuttgart. Dr Heinrich Reidelbach, the DaimlerChrysler vice-president International procurement Services said, "The decisive factor for commending Shell Lubricants and other suppliers is way above average performance and added value. That is the basis for a partnership with mutual commitment and opportunity for joint success. It is essential to combine the strengths of DaimlerChrysler with those of the suppliers in order to achieve a top-class value-added partnership."
The key criteria for this year's commendations against which Shell Lubricants was measured, was the suppliers' contributions to supporting the four value drivers of the DaimlerChrysler Global Purchasing and Supply (GP&S) organisation. These are quality, technology, cost and logistics. Shell Lubricant's Frank Rutten, the key account director for Mercedes-Benz division of DaimlerChrysler noted, "Reliable and on specification deliveries were key performance factors which won Shell Lubricants this award. Our ability to provide leading product development and technology was also vital and drew on expertise across the Shell Group to create value for DaimlerChrysler."
In the last decade, Shell has been collaborating closely in several areas with the Mercedes-Benz truck and car divisions. Shell Lubricants and Mercedes-Benz have worked closely together on engine development to enable the best performance match between engine and lubricants. The combined efforts have resulted in a series of excellent first fill products. Shell Lubricants currently supplies a wide range of first fill products for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In selected countries, Shell personnel undertake the first-fi ll fuels and lubricants on site at Mercedes-Benz facilities. Here, Shell is also responsible for inventory management.
Shell Lubricants new Rimula Signia, a synthetic heavyduty diesel engine lubricant designed to meet the increasing demands of low-emission vehicles, was developed and tested on Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Europe. Rimula Signia enables complex engine and exhaust systems to meet the ever-tightening emissions legislation, such as Euro 4 and Euro 5, which are creating new challenges for transport operators and prompting a fundamental change in lubrication technology. In an industry where maximum up time and minimum maintenance costs are essential, adopting these changes is the key to profitability and success.
