Anything-to-liquid (XTL)
The innovative anything-to-liquid (XTL) process can turn virtually any carbon-containing material (X) into a clean, odourless and colourless liquid.
EZIP swellables
The swelling rubber from a child’s toy made one of our engineers think of a use for the material that could help solve the problem of water seeping in to the well. And it worked.
Corterra
Imagine a type of polyester that is better than traditional polyester. This fibre, polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), was recently commercially unviable until a new process made it possible and Corterra was born.
Fish protein
Shell scientists came up with a synthetic replica of the protein that stopped fish freezing in deep sea temperatures. This synthetic, inspired by fish, is now helping to keep oil and gas moving in very low temperatures.
Floor tiles from soft drink bottles
What started out as a lunchtime chat over a soft drink, became Echotect - a new process that enables the lowest grade of recycled PET plastic materials to be used to make a stone composite.
