The fuel in your tank has been developed in the lab by some of the best scientists from around the world. 120 fuel technology experts work continuously to bring you advanced and effective fuels. It helps to ensure only high quality fuel reaches your engine.

As well as filling up with Shell Super Unleaded and Diesel from Shell with fuel economy, there are a number of simple things you can do to help get extra miles* out of every tank.

1. Change gear in good time, moving up to the highest gear as soon as appropriate.
2. Drive smoothly, avoiding hard acceleration.
3. Break smoothly by keeping a good distance from the car in front of you.
4. Keep your tyres properly inflated.
5. Make sure you don’t over-rev your car.
6. Don’t carry excess weight – clear your boot out now and again.
7. Switch off your engine when it’s not in use.
8.  Use your air conditioning sparingly.
9. Keep your engine well tuned and serviced.
10. Avoid high speeds.

How do you know you can trust Shell for fuel economy?

Here are some of our key milestones:

1907 Shell Spirit – We created the first ever branded petrol, which helped Prince Borghese of Italy win the Peking to Paris motor rally.

1920 Shell Dynamin – We developed Shell Dynamin which was designed to deliver advanced energy efficiency.

1939 Shell Mileage Marathon – Shell research scientists set up the Mileage Marathon to settle an argument over whose car could go the furthest on the least amount of fuel. The first car achieved 50 miles to just one gallon of fuel.

1955 Shell ICA – Shell’s Ignition Control Additive (ICA) was designed to make engines run more smoothly.

1977 Shell Mileage Marathon continues – What started out as a friendly wager between Shell research scientists becomes an organised international event.

1985 Shell Eco Marathon – The Shell Mileage Marathon evolves into a new competition. Now students design and build a vehicle using the least fuel possible.

2003 Shell Fuel Economy – Shell trials Shell Fuel Economy products internationally.

2006 Guinness World Record – Shell breaks a world record for the ‘lowest round the world fuel consumption’ in a standard vehicle, powering a vehicle around the globe on just 24 tanks of Shell Unleaded.

2011 Shell Fuel Economy fuels - Shell Fuel Economy fuels sold in <India> for the first time.
