Responding to the latest landslides and flood disasters  in Indonesia, Shell Indonesia supports Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) with Rp. 100 Million (One hundred million rupiah) in cash  for its immediate rescue and evacuation efforts. Representing Shell, Social Investment Manager Sri Endah handed the donation to Iyang Sukandar, the Secretary General of PMI at PMI Headquarters  in Jakarta, Friday, 4 January 2008.

"Shell hopes that the donation will lessen the sufferings of victims in the areas affected by the disasters of landslides and flood," said Endah.   Iyang Sukandar welcomed the cash contribution from Shell and said that it  will be used to provide food assistance to the survivors of the disasters.

"We are grateful to  receive this donation at a time when lack of funding is limiting our access to help  the victims of this catastrophe," he said.

Since the start of the disasters, PMI has been monitoring the situation closely and is on standby to provide necessary assistance. PMI already supports emergency operation such as  distribution of aid (hygiene kit, blanket, kanvas and operational fund), health services and public kitchen for flood and landslides victim in some areas in Central Java( Kabupaten Karang Anyar, Grobongan, Surakarta, Sukarjo and Kudus) and in  East Java(Kabupaten Lumajang, Bojonegoro and Ponorogo).
