Shell Cassida: Special Lubricant For Food and Beverages Manufacturing Machines To Ensure Consumer Safety (English)

26/07/2007

Today Shell is introducing Shell Cassida, an international standard lubricant made especially for food and beverages manufacturing machines, at the “Quality, Safety, and Service” seminar at Jakarta. The seminar, attended by Indonesian food and beverage entrepreneurs, features Indonesia Food and Medicine Monitoring Body Deputy (BPOM) Dedi Fardiaz, Chairman The Indonesian Food and Beverage Association (GAPMMI) Thomas Darmawan, and Eduard M. Stempfel from Shell as speakers.

Food and beverage industry requires specific lubricant which differs from other lubricants. The emphasise is not only on the technical performance of the lubricant itself, but also great attention on hygiene, health, food safety and prevention against contamination. As a leading lubricant producer in the world, Shell fully recognizes the importance of safe manufacturing methods and products for food producers. The use of Shell Cassida will ensure that it fulfills its main function as a high quality lubricant which help machines last longer and also safe for food and beverages products.

Shell Indonesia Country Chairman and President Director Darwin Silalahi said, “With the increasing hygiene standards and Indonesian market demand, especially on the food industry, special lubricants are required for food manufacturing to avoid contamination and ensure consumer safety, Shell is committed to distributing Shell Cassida lubricant to fulfil the demand.”

Dedi Fardiaz from BPOM delivered a presentation about The Impact of Contamination in the Production Process at the seminar, where he explained, “It is very important to make sure that the food and beverages we consume were produced in a safe environment with safe working practices and products. Contaminants must be avoided in food products by implementing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) to ensure that food products are suitable and safe for consumption.”

GAPMMI Chairman Thomas Dharmawan added, “As a business, we always try to prioritize on  producing food products that are safe, healthy and halal as an effort to meet the standard of consumer protection in food safety and also consumer satisfaction as a way to maintain the company’s reputation.”

Eduard M. Stempfel from Shell Research and Development team mentions that ”Many food and beverage manufacturers are still not really aware of the right processes and applications for food and beverages production, resulting in the inadvertant contamination of products by lubricants which they use for their machineries. Shell Cassida has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States as well as other food regulators such as the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) class H1, International, the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) and the New Zealand Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries (NZMAF), as a lubricant which is safe to use on food and beverages manufacturing machines.”

Outside Indonesia, Shell Cassida is used by food and beverages manufacturers in many countries worldwide, including USA, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia since 1993.
