Shell Fuel Stations – Safe Zone For Kids (English)

14/11/2007

Last week Shell went one step further to reinforce the importance of safety in the hearts and minds of the Indonesian motorists by launching a Child Safety initiative aimed at raising awareness for parents and children on the potential dangers at a refuelling outlet.

By raising awareness of their “simple rules” like not letting children walk to the shop alone, not leaving them alone in a car, and not letting them play with the petrol nozzle, Shell believes they will reduce the risk to children who are at their sites as their parents refuel.

Jawwad Cheema, Retail Manager of Shell Indonesia, said that at Shell they were all personally committed to making sure children are safe on Shell forecourts and that he had personally undertaken an oath  ‘I will share my learning of child safety on site visits with retailers and my circle of friends and acquaintances because I want to spread the message of Child Safety at all petrol stations and not confine it to our stations.’

Wael Sawan, General Manager, Portfolio, New Market Entries and Alliances for Shell

The aim is to make the Shell outlet as safe as possible for children, in a fun-filled, educative manner commencing from November 5th 2007 across all it’s operational outlets in Indonesia. The campaign will involve Shell’s own trained attendants. Shell is the only company to take up Child Safety at its retail stations as a concern.

Everyone at Shell feels responsible for making the retail outlet a safe zone for children and to educate parents on the safe practices within the Shell outlet. This can only be achieved if at Shell, they understand the importance of these practices themselves and follow them with focus.

As part of this commitment to Child Safety, Shell would be distributing leaflets for parents, informing them about safety “Do’s and Don’ts” at all Shell outlets in Indonesia. In order to make the experience an enjoyable one for children, Shell would be distributing puzzles and colouring sheets to the children to keep them occupied in a safe place away from the vehicle while refuelling.

Do’s:

  1. Dismount from your vehicle (two-wheelers) and help your child dismount too, while refuelling.
  2. While you refuel, ensure that your child is escorted by a Shell attendant to the waiting area.
  3. In case your child wants to go to the Shell Shop, ensure you accompany him/her or ask for help from our staff.

Don’ts:

  1. Do not leave your child unattended at the outlet or inside the car while refuelling.
  2. Ensure that your child doesn’t play with general and electrical equipment.
  3. Don’t let your child stand close to the fuelling pump, or wait at the entry or exit, while you refuel.
