Shell Companies in Indonesia announced today the launch of its Road Safety Campaign program in Jakarta to coincide with the holiday season when many people are spending more time on the roads travelling to see their families for Lebaran. Surinderdeep Singh, General Manager Retail for Shell Companies in Indonesia, said, “Shell is passionate about safety in all aspects of its business, this is not just corporate jargon. If we can save just one life by raising people’s awareness of these very simple but important issues during the busiest time of the year, then we have made a difference”. The Safety Campaign conveys three important messages for all motorists on the road: - Turn off your mobile phone while driving.
- Wear your helmet when riding your bike.
- In a car, remember your seatbelt.
International research has indicated that people who speak on their mobile phone are four times more likely to be in a car accident * (including those who use a hands-free kit), while studies have also shown that the use of helmets and seatbelts help to save lives significantly in the event of road accidents. Shell believes that following these three golden rules will significantly increase the safety of motorists and passengers on the road. During this campaign, Shell will conduct a safety quiz for all customers at all Shell fuels retail outlets with exciting prizes to be won. An interactive radio talk show on Otomotion hosted by Dodi Budiono, Manager HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) for Shell Companies in Indonesia will also support this Road Safety Campaign program. * Redelmeier DA, Tibshirani RJ.
