In order to assist, Shell Indonesia donated Rp 4.8 billion (US$515,000) through IRC (Indonesian Red Cross). The cheque for this amount was handed to the IRC Chairman Mar’ie Mohammad today at IRC Headquarter in Jakarta, by Zisca Pesiwarissa, Finance Director of Shell Indonesia, representing Bob Moran, Country Chairman of the Shell Companies in Indonesia. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those that have suffered losses and who will continue to face a difficult future as a result of this disaster in Indonesia. Shell hopes this donation will help them,” said Mr. Moran. In addition, Shell Singapore will be donating much needed fuel tanks to the disaster stricken areas. One of the severe shortages felt in the aftermath of the disaster has been fuel supply due to the damage caused to fuel stations in Aceh. The fuel tanks will facilitate essential logistical support for the movement of relief and for reconstruction. Shell Indonesia and Shell Singapore are working closely with Pertamina to coordinate preparation and delivery of these tanks at the soonest time. As part of its response to the tsunami disaster, the Royal Dutch/Shell Group’s primary objective has been to focus on providing immediate local support on the ground to local communities through its operations in affected countries. This includes the fuel storage tanks for Indonesia, provision of fuel for rescue transport in Thailand, and the supply of water tanks in Sri Lanka. In Malaysia, Shell will be providing bottled mineral water, refueling authorized central services vehicles for free over a specific period of time, and ensuring the continued supply of essential fuels to the affected areas. Globally, Shell has contributed US$3 million to relief efforts; of this US$1mn comprises donations and contributions from Shell companies around the world, much of it from matching additional donations from individual Shell employees.
