Shell Sponsors Asia’s leading Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in Jakarta

01/09/2005

This September, Shell will take a leading role in the fourth annual Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR), being held in Jakarta at the Hilton Hotel on September 8 and 9.

AFCSR, Asia’s premier conference and expo on corporate social responsibility, highlights innovative programs and best practices in CSR by corporations in Asia.  The event seeks to promote CSR as a key strategy in addressing public needs and problems, and to advance new thinking and standards on CSR.  AFCSR is further an opportunity for CSR practitioners across Asia to build their network.

Roberto Moran, Country Chairman and President Director of Shell companies in Indonesia, will speak on the plenary session on CSR Strategies for Global/International Corporations. “We have an essential role in finding new ways to meet present and future energy needs in environmentally and socially responsible ways. We believe this is not only the right thing to do, but is important for the future success of our business,” said Moran.

Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies. The aim of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group is to meet the energy needs of society, in ways that are economically, socially and environmentally viable, now, and in the future. Shell also delivers a much wider range of energy solutions and petrochemicals to customers. These include transporting and trading oil and gas, marketing natural gas, producing and selling fuel for ships and planes, generating electricity and providing energy efficiency advice. The group also produces and sells petrochemical building blocks to industrial customers globally and invests in making renewable and lower-carbon energy sources competitive for large-scale use.  In Indonesia, Shell is a leading supplier of lubricants to consumer, transport and industrial customers and is about to embark on new ventures in fuels retailing and solar home systems marketing.

This year’s AFCSR has the theme: “Exploring CSR Strategies for Business: How the right strategy for CSR can make business more effective.”  The conference examines the developments in the field of CSR that are helping make business more effective.
