He heard of Shell and its businesses from many information resources including Shell’s website and some friends who are working for Shell. “Besides, I have been a long time loyal user of some Shell’s automotive brands for my cars at home as well as a fan of an F-1 racing team sponsored by Shell, hence I have quite a strong emotional relation with Shell’s image, and has always been quite well-updated on Shell’s product development.” As an alumni of the University of Indonesia , he was also inspired by Mr. Darwin Silalahi’s speeches on several occasions. Mr. Silalahi, is the current Country Chairman of Shell Indonesia and a well respected alumni of the University of Indonesia. In Indonesia, Shell is in the process of implementing new global streamlined process and enterprise system. Taufik sees this is an opportunity to be part of that change journey and take advantage of the possibilities of personal and professional development. In addition, the intelligence, professionalism, and enthusiasm of the people he met both before and during the interview process also impressed him. In addition, prior to joining Shell, he had some international working experience overseas including in London and the United States. Hence working in multinational environment which is respectful to diversity has always been an attraction point for Taufik. It actually took quite a long time for Taufik before finally deciding to join Shell, as he was already in a very nice position with his previous employer. But convincing explanation during the interview process about the large opportunities in Shell for career development has encouraged him to to join Shell. “I’m a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and my masters degree is also in Accounting, but the Country Business Manager who is hiring me has strongly convinced me that I can do a lot more than merely accounting and finance role.” Taufik’s first impressions were that Shell Indonesia has a convincing expansion plan as he came across a lot of young talented professionals in the office who were just been hired for various roles. Taufik has been exposed to international assignment in his first month to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to learn the Commercial Fuels business. In the second month, he was assigned to Manila, the Philippines to participate the Process Knowledge Workshop of Downstream One Project. Greatest learning from life with Shell to date is that Shell trained and encouraged its people not merely to become high calibre professionals who can get things done and strife for the best, but also to become a balanced person, by prioritizing HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) culture, integrity, and work life balance on the top list. Thus far, wherever Taufik goes to any other Shell business units in other countries, these framework and principles are proven to be well maintained consistently. “The best thing in my life is my family,” Taufik strongly commented. When he decided to accept job offer from Shell, first of all he wanted to know how Shell could provide protection and security not only for himself but also for his family.
