Shell V-Power‡ Diesel fuels second Audi Le Mans victory
09/01/2008
For the second year running, Shell V-Power Diesel race fuel has powered the winning team in the 24 Heures du Mans race. Following last year’s historic win, when a diesel car won Le Mans for the first time, the Audi R10 TDI took the chequered flag again.
The performance and efficiency advantages of Shell V-Power Diesel race fuel helped the Audi drivers Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner to complete the historic French race in 369 laps.
Audi Sport and Shell are both pioneers in the diesel revolution, and once again the combination of Audi TDI engineering and Shell V-Power Diesel fuel technology proved impossible for the rest of the field to beat.
The Le Mans result was due in part to the inclusion of Shell GTL (gas-to-liquids) Fuel in the race formulation. Shell V-Power Diesel fuel is the first performance diesel to use this special synthetic fuel, which is created from natural gas using a proprietary Shell process. Shell GTL Fuel burns more cleanly and efficiently than conventional diesel because of its outstanding purity and cetane quality.
Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport, says, “It was essential to have a fuel partner that really understood the importance of having a cleaner fuel. We were really excited about working with Shell Global Solutions, one of the pioneers of gas-to-liquids technology, a vital part of Shell V-Power Diesel race fuel.”
