Ducati takes its first-ever MotoGP World Championship

09/02/2008

Ducati is celebrating a MotoGP World Championship treble after Australian rider Casey Stoner secured the rider’s title and also helped Ducati to win the constructors’ crown and the Ducati MotoGP Team to win the team title.

The technical regulations for 2007 reduced fuel tank capacity to 21L, which meant that getting the best power out of the bike engines has been vital.

The close technical relationship between Ducati and Shell helped Shell Global Solutions’ retail and automotive fuels technology and lubricants technology groups in Hamburg, Germany, to deliver high-performance race lubricants and fuels based on Shell Advance‡ and Shell V-Power‡ technologies. This is the first time that Shell has been involved in such a triple result in motorcycle racing.

Stoner, aged 21, claimed 10 victories and a further four podium places, thus equalling the all-time points record and becoming the second youngest ever MotoGP title winner.

Livio Suppo, Project Manager, Ducati MotoGP, says, “The fuel you use can greatly help in improving fuel consumption. We have done a great job with Shell, and every little helps. To work with a company that also works in Formula One is important.”
