Assisting with petrochemical's expansion in Singapore
23/05/2007
Shell is expanding its facilities in Singapore in response to the high demand for polymers and plastics in the Far East.
A new integrated refinery and petrochemicals facility, the Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex, is being built and will include a new, world-scale ethylene cracker, plus modifications and additions to the existing refinery on Bukom Island. A new mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) plant, which will use Shell proprietary technology, is also being built on nearby Jurong Island.
Shell Global Solutions is assisting with technology implementation and project management.
Facilities across the sites will be fully integrated, which will enable feedstock and operating benefits. The 800,000-tonnes-per-annum cracker will be ideally positioned to supply cracker products to the new 750,000- tonnes-per-annum MEG plant; planned and existing joint-venture derivatives plants; and major customers on Jurong Island via existing undersea pipelines.
“This project represents another significant step in Shell’s commitment towards delivering a profitable downstream business for the group,” says Rob Routs, executive director downstream, Royal Dutch Shell. He adds, “Shell is committed to growing chemicals investments in Asia–Pacific and the Middle East, and this is another example of how we are delivering on that strategy.”
