Lubricants help drivers hit NASCAR top 10

02/07/2007

Speciality lubricants developed and manufactured by Shell Global Solutions at the Westhollow Technology Center, Texas, USA, helped at least five stock car drivers make it into the NASCAR top 10 of the 2006 Nextel Cup series.

Towards the end of each NASCAR season, the points earned by the drivers during races in the preceding months are totalled to give an overall score. US NASCAR fans – estimated to number 75 million – watch the results closely.

At number one for the 2006 season was Jimmie Johnson, a driver with the Quaker State sponsored team, which uses Shell Global Solutions’ lubricants to help maximise the performance of the vehicles. In second place was Matt Kenseth driving for the Pennzoil sponsored team, which also had another driver in the top 10, Mark Martin, who was ninth. The Quaker State team’s other top 10 performers were Jeff Gordon (6th) and Kyle Busch (10th).

Our racing lubricants, as used by NASCAR teams, are formulated to optimise performance in the NASCAR vehicles.

Mark Ferner, team leader, Shell Global Solutions (US) Inc., says, “This was an excellent result for the teams using speciality oils custom-made at Westhollow. And it came on the back of the excellent news that a Shell-sponsored team would be using our oils in 2007.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the team at Westhollow for a job well done.”
